Our April meeting often falls very near (or on) St. George’s Day, so what better way to celebrate our Patron Saint than by having a fundraising ‘Open Table’ event in support of veterans’ charities.
Our inaugural St. George’s Day ‘Wear The Rose’ open table event was held on Tuesday 25th April 2023 in support of Spirit of Normandy Trust. The special guest of honour for this auspicious occasion was Kenneth Hay MBE, Leg d’Hon.
The business of the Chapter being opened and concluded, the Third Point was observed before being closed and prepared in time to welcome our families and guests.
Members and guests enjoyed a sumptuous three course meal and then settled for a truly humbling talk from Ken Hay about his experiences during the Normandy Invasion, the days and weeks that followed, his capture and treatment as a POW before being liberated by US forces.
The evening raised £640 for The Spirit of Normandy Trust. The trust provides support to the remaining Normandy Veterans and is committed to educating future generations about the Normandy Campaign.
